The Team

Jeanne-Marie Edon-Johnson - Directrice & Tutor

I was born near Paris where I grew up, studied and worked in many fields. After a couple of years at the Alliance française de Cambridge I moved to the Leeds area in 2016.

I am a qualified teacher of French as a Foreign Language (Master's Degree) and I have been teaching French for many years and in many countries. I also have a Degree in Linguistics and in Psychology giving me a strong understanding of language acquisition.

Keen traveler, I have visited and lived in many countries all around the world allowing me to discover many education cultures which taught me the importance of an intercultural approach in teaching.

I am very proud to represent the Alliance Française de Leeds and I am looking forward to meeting you in class or at one of our events at Leeds Trinity University or at the Quakers' Meeting House in Leeds.

Cynthia Rozanski - Course and Admin Director & Tutor

I am a qualified teacher of French and I moved to Leeds in 2012.

I have two Masters degrees, one in English Language & History and another in Teaching French as a Foreign Language. I decided to do the latter whilst being a French Assistant in a private Secondary School and discovered that I really enjoyed teaching to a variety of ages.

My experience is varied and rich. I have worked for Primary schools in Salford and Bradford, but also closer to home in the North of France with teenagers and adults hoping to improve their French.

In my lessons I use a lot of different materials: games, videos, pair work etc. to try and make French as enjoyable as possible.

Being the Admin and Course Director at the Alliance Française, you will probably see my name in most of the e-mails!

Saâdia Gamir - Tutor

I have a dual cultural heritage (French and North African) that has influenced my long and varied language teaching career of 9 years overseas and 24 years in the UK.  I have taught at various educational sectors involving primary, secondary and higher education institutions.

I hold an MFL (Modern Foreign Language) teaching qualification for secondary schools and a PGCE for Secondary French. I also have a BA in English, an MA in Descriptive and Applied Linguistics and an MPhil in TESOL, which have given me the skills and qualifications to teach French, Arabic and English across the main three educational sectors, both overseas and in the UK. I am also currently working on an EdD in Education.

All of this has influenced my teaching methods, as I am very keen in using pedagogical methodologies, such as Flipped Classroom and Blended learning to develop my language learners’ intercultural communication and cross-cultural awareness. I look forward to teaching you and learning from your rich and varied learning experiences.

À très bientôt!

Muriel Cordoba - Tutor

I was born in Toulouse and grew up in the French Alps.  After spending five years in the Netherlands, I moved to Britain in 1995.

I have 15 years experience in teaching French to adults from beginner to BA degree level in a university language department, first at Kingston upon Thames then in Leeds. I also have experience in preparing students for GCSE and A-levels qualifications. Next to my teaching qualifications, the PGCHE and more recently a Master FLE/FLS/FOS, I have also two Master degrees, one in History and one in Cultural policy which gives me a broad cultural knowledge that I can apply in my teaching.

In my lessons, I enjoy discussing a wide range of topics and like to add when possible recent material such as video extracts or newspaper articles to get a better understanding in recent developments that take place in France but also in other French speaking countries.

I am looking forward to meeting you at the Alliance Française de Leeds.
